Kaloxylos, Hadjiefthymiades & Merakos: Mobility Management and Control protocol for wireless ATM networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
The introduction of wireless ATM (WATM) in customer premises networks (CPN) environments necessitates the design of mobility signaling protocols, since the existing versions of BISDN signaling do not support terminal mobility. Such protocols can be deployed either as extensions to the standard signaling capabilities, or as individual solutions that have little or no impact on existing infrastructures (switches, signaling software, etc.). A WATM architecture that adopts the latter approach is presented. After a discussion on the problems encountered in the integration of wireless networking and B-ISDN ATM technologies, a Mobility Management and Control (MMC) protocol is proposed. Finally, in the framework of the proposed MMC protocol, algorithms for implementing mobility procedures (handover and registration) are described.

متن کاملMobility Management in an IP-based Wireless ATM Network
Traditionally, mobility support in IP was not designed for wireless systems but rather for relocation of wired terminals in a new sub-network. With new wireless technology, the question arises how mobility for such systems can be supported on the Internet. The extension of a wireless ATM access network to support native IP access with IP-based mobility management is described. Using standard pr...

The Magic WAND project, implemented in the context of the ACTS Programme of the European Commission, aims to introduce ATM technology in wireless CPN environments, allowing mobile terminals to support multimedia traffic. Towards this objective, certain procedures like Handover, Location Update and Registration need to be designed in an efficient way. This paper discusses the network architectur...
